The LPD-1 converts stored antiprotons into electrical power through controlled proton-antiproton annihilation. Each collision produces charged and neutral pions at ~140 MeV per pion; the charged fraction (~67% of annihilation energy) is captured via MHD induction in a solenoidal channel, while the neutral pion gamma rays (~33%) deposit thermal energy in a tungsten-rhenium calorimeter for Brayton-cycle recovery. Total conversion efficiency target: 85% of annihilation energy to electricity.

Emitter B (Target): Protonic hydrogen injector fires a matched proton stream.

Standby: 103 particles/sec (picowatts).
Full load: 1014 particles/sec (megawatts).
Response: Microsecond extraction optics; millisecond to thermal equilibrium at new power level.
